Whole Child

At KES, students are able to participate in a variety of activities that are tailored to their interests and passions to further their skill set and support their academic learning experiences. We also meet our students' social-emotional needs through Counseling and TSSP.

Performing Arts Program

The Kipapa Performing Arts program provides students opportunities to explore their creativity through song, dance, drama, instrument playing, public speaking, and self-expression. Through performance-based, integrated activities, students learn about quality, teamwork, perseverance, and self-direction. Multiple experiences help build self-confidence, exercise imagination and improve communication and complex thinking skills. In addition to curriculum related projects, the Drama Club put on productions of Seussical the Musical and The Lion King, Jr. for the community.

Physical Education

The vision of the Physical Education program at KES is that all individuals will appreciate and participate in a healthy, active lifestyle. The goals of the PE program are for students to: have 100% participation in fitness based PE; enjoy and seek out physical activity; develop and maintain acceptable levels of physical activity; develop a variety of basic movement and manipulative skills so students will experience success and feel comfortable during present and future physical activity pursuits; and to develop the ability to get along with others in movement environments.

Technology

The Technology Program at KES services students in Grades Kindergarten through 5. Students learn technology skills such as keyboarding and the use of Google Drive, which they will need as they move into higher education and/or the workforce.

iMac Club

Students in Grades 4 and 5 are able to participate in KES' Innovative Movies and Creations (iMac) Club. This club develops the skills addressed in GLO #6 - being an effective and ethical user of technology. Students research topics, storyboard ideas, film scenes, and edit videos with the overall goal of producing short films. The films are entered into Olelo's Youth Xchange Video Competition.

Library Program

KES' Library Program is integrated with our curriculum and serves all users, regardless of age and ability. KES' Library supports student achievement by offering a program that: provides resources and activities that contribute to lifelong learning; engages students in access, evaluating, and using information to solve problems and satisfy their curiosity; provides resources that represent a diversity of experiences, opinions, and social/cultural perspectives; provides a safe and inviting environment that offers access to a full range of information for learning; and collaborates with teachers to integrate library lessons in grade level curriculum.

Library Club

Students in Grades 4 and 5 are invited to join KES' Library Club. In this club, students perform civic duties by assisting with library duties. Students volunteer their time shelving books, checking in and out library materials, and delivering items to classrooms. The students also volunteer at the library's biannual Book Fair.

Robotics

Students in Grades 2-5 are able to participate in KES' Robotics Program. There are different levels of participation in robotics from basic exploration and the use of ozobots, all the way to entering in district and state level competitions for both the First Lego League (FLL) and VEX programs. Student practice teamwork and complex thinking skills as they work to solve problems, program robots, and engage in public speaking opportunities.

Counseling Program

KES's two counselors work with students in Grades PS-2 and Grades 3-5. Our counselors provide various types of support services for students, such as individualized counseling programs to support and provide positive ways to cope with academic, social, and/or emotional issues. Our counselors also offer small group counseling to provide an avenue for students to explore topics such as self-esteem, friendship skills, grief, divorce, anger management, and social skills. Our counselors also teach Guidance lessons to all students to reinforce the 6 Pillars of Character.

TSSP

KES's Transitional Student Support Program (TSSP) is a school-based prevention and early intervention program that enhances student learning and promotes competencies that reduce social, emotional, and school adjustment concerns. This program assists and supports students new to KES as they adjust to KES' culture, as well as students who show difficulty transitioning from one grade level to the next.
