This AP course is for students who are interested in a science-related career field. Students who score well on the AP test may be eligible for college credit. AP Biology is a fast-paced course in which at least 25% of class time will be spent in a lab setting throughout the year. Therefore, a large amount of independent reading, video viewing, and note taking will be required outside of class. Students may find it helpful to take Anatomy & Physiology and/or Statistics prior to or concurrently with AP Biology, but neither is required as a prerequisite. This course provides an in-depth understanding of how aviation technology has evolved from the earliest balloon flights, to the invention of the airplane. Students will build and fly a variety of models including kites, hot air balloons, gliders, and airplanes. The extensive model building will require students to work cooperatively and efficiently while strictly adhering to the assignment guidelines and schedules.
The drone option requires each student to purchase their own drone and other equipment for use during approximately the last four weeks of class. The minimum required equipment is: 1 Tello Drone and at least 1 extra drone battery. All of these items can be purchased from Amazon and possibly Best Buy. Based on 2023 prices, the rough estimate of the cost for the required equipment is $130 in addition to the normal course fee of $40.
