Waiver for Physical Education

Ohio Department of Education

The Ohio Department of Education requires that each student earn one-half credit of Physical Education to graduate. Introductory Physical Education courses earn .25 credit each so students must take 2-semester classes to complete graduation requirements.

PE Waiver

The PE Waiver is an alternate option to taking those classes. Students who have participated in interscholastic athletics for at least two (2) full seasons as defined in the student handbook, while enrolled in grades 9 through 12 and as documented by the principal, may be excused from the high school physical education requirement. The PE Waiver option will not be part of the 23 credits required for graduation. Additionally, students may not elect one season of a sport and one PE credit. The PE waiver must be two full seasons.

Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) sanctioned athletic sports as well as the Marching Band qualify for the PE waiver.   Academic Quiz Team does not qualify for the PE Waiver.

The waiver needs to be applied by the administration immediately after each season for all students 9-12
