Personal and Professional Studies
PPS at King Ethelbert School
PPS at King Ethelbert School
At KES we believe in developing well-rounded and multi-skilled young people who are fully equipped for their futures. We want to balance the academic progress with personal development. We have designed PPS as a course to embed these personal and professional skills through cross-curricular and project based learning.
The skills we focus on are:
Oracy
Independence
Project Management
Public Speaking
IT literacy
Confidence
Leadership
Organisation
Resilience
Initiative
Communication
Debating and Listening
Planning and Prioritising
These skills are taught through a series of small cross-curricular projects where the students are assessed on their personal development in one or more of these attributes whilst completing an engaging task that is designed to compliment their learning in the other curriculum areas. Students are taught to be reflective and honest about their own skills and guided through making developments in these areas.
Examples of projects include:
Dragons Den
Bid for the Olympics
Favella Design project
University Challenge
The Big Class Challenge
Although there is no formal assessment through this course, the students have the opportunity to attain a National PIXL EDGE Apprentice Award, by completing a number of skills based tasks.
