King Ethelbert School

What we offer at KS3/4/5

Students follow a mastery scheme of learning which is designed for students to develop a depth of knowledge. Students learn through investigations, rich tasks as well as practice based lessons.

Students are required to have their own scientific calculator and geometry set. When studying for IB mathematics students have the opportunity to purchase a graphical calculator to support their studies.

Qualifications at KS4 and KS5

We offer Edexcel GCSE Mathematics in year 11 at either the higher or foundation tier based on our students' ability. Our top two groups in Year 10 are offered the opportunity to gain an additional GCSE in statistics.

In Key Stage 5 our students have the option to chose IB Mathematical Application and Interpretations at standard level. There is the possibility of completing the qualification at higher level with additional sessions outside of lesson time.

Extra curricular activities in the Mathematics Department

The Maths department offer a number of trips and opportunities over a students time at school.

In year 7 they can visit the British Museum in London and in Year 9 we offer a trip Thorpe Park.

We participate in the UKMT team challenges as well as our most able sitting the Junior (Y8) or Intermediate (Y10) maths challenges. Each year we have students achieving awards from these challenges.

Support is offered after school for all students which they can use to help with their homework or to complete additional study.
