KS4/5 Subjects

As well as the broad curriculum we offer at Key stage 3, we have additional subjects that students can choose as part of the option process to study at Key stage 4 and 5. Below is more information about these subjects.

Business

This course prepares students for the world of work. Giving them practical and theoretical knowledge in areas such as, marketing, finance, human resources, sales and customer service. As well as developing the skills and characteristics they need to succeed in the world of work. We look forward to seeing you in Year 10.


Health & Social Care

The Health and Social Care sector is one of the fastest growing employment sectors with a diverse range of career opportunities. The BTEC course is an excellent preparation for anyone looking for a career in some of the most rewarding and interesting roles locally, nationally and globally. The Level 3 course prepares you for university and/or work, as well as providing a skills base for many other careers outside of the sector.

Travel and Tourism

The course is designed to provide an exciting and interesting introduction into the travel and tourism industry. Students will learn about travel and tourism destinations in the UK as well as holiday destinations in Europe and Worldwide. They will also gain an understanding of the travel and tourism’s role within the UK economy, changing online technologies, and the importance of customer service. Hope to meet you soon!!

Film Studies

Film Studies is a fantastic and exciting course which allows students to study a variety of films from around the world. We offer Film Studies at KS4 and KS5. Both courses combine practical and theory components allowing student's to develop an understanding of different future pathways, post life at King Ethelbert. The course also allows students to be reflective, question director's intentions, develop analytical skills as well as be internationally minded.

Anthropology

Anthropology is the study of humans. Social and Cultural Anthropologists uncover the meanings behind human action and interaction. They seek to understand what makes us humans, and how different societies are similar and yet distinctive. We focus on small groups within society and ask questions about body modification, gender and conflict.

Psychology

Psychology is the fascinating study of how the mind works. What determines our personality? Is it nature or nurture? How do we remember things? How do our brains work? We explore different theoretical answers to these questions and delve into the psychology of mental illness.
