The International Baccaleureate Career-Related Programme is a career-pathway designed for 16-19 year olds which amalgamates vocational learning with the rigour of academic IB subjects.
The CP was specifically developed for students who wish to engage in career-related learning while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement.
At King Ethelbert School the IBCP has been the sole route of post-16 education since 2011 where we had our first ever sixth form cohort of 9 students. Today we have approximately 100 students in the sixth form all studying the IBCP.
The programme leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
The IBCP (International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme) enables students to:
· Develop a broad range of career-related competencies in a rigorous and all-round vocational and academic qualification
· Prepare for effective participation in an ever-changing world of work gaining an international perspective
· Foster the attributes of the learner profile allowing students to become true life-long learners willing to consider new perspectives, ask challenging questions, critically reflect and develop research skills
· Engage in learning that makes a positive difference to future lives and better understand how you can excel through understanding your own strengths and challenges
· Become a self-confident individual ready for life in the 21st century
The IBCP is composed of a framework centred around developing lifelong learning skills in a unique IBCP Core, (more details can be found on the IBCP Core page).
As well as this students study one BTEC Level 3 qualification and at least two IB Diploma subjects. Some students can choose to study three IB choices, but these are dependent on option blocks and a conversation with the Head of Sixth Form.
