"Backing the Need"

"Backing the Need" is an annual backpack & school supply drive that is hosted by KIDS CARE nonprofit and the Cobb County Police Department.  We ask the community for help as we collect new backpacks and school supplies for students of all ages.  All collected donations are donated to local nonprofits who serve youth & families in need of assistance. 

Over the past five years, with the help of local businesses, volunteers, and the public, we have collected and donated a total of 3,084 new backpacks full of supplies to local students in need.  See our recipients page for more info.

*An important part of this program is engaging youth in community service.  Your donations allow our youth to work together to serve in way that benefits hundreds of local students in need. Special thanks to all of the volunteers who have worked compassionately every year!

Please bring new backpacks & school supplies to our event day on Saturday, July 18, 2026.  

While there enjoy the following:

• Meet “Rose”- Cobb County DA's comfort dog

• Look inside a CCPD patrol car & meet a Police Officer

• Watch Cobb PALS Youth Step Team Perform @11:15 & 11:45 am

• Drop off recycling to Keep Cobb Beautiful (flatten down cardboard, plastics, aluminum cans, food grade glass bottle/jars and hard to recycle plastics in the orange Hefty bag)

KIDS CARE is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit based in Marietta, GA.  Our mission is to create youth community service experiences, encourage kindness, and promote environmental stewardship.  We encourage youth & families to compassionately give their time and join us in one of our monthly community service experiences.  We aspire to inspire Kindness & Compassion, through generosity of time and the awareness of the needs of others in our community. Youth voices guide who and how we serve.
