Welcome, 6th grade protégés and mentors! Mentors, Inc. @ Kid Power is excited to include you in our program! During this time, protégés are likely preparing to transition into their second year of middle school. This transition comes with many changes and we hope that protégés and their mentors can use these provided resources to make the adjustment as smooth as possible!
Getting Organized📑: As protégés will have multiple teachers and classes at the same time, using folders and planners is very useful to keep track of assignments and keep your locker/ bag clean.
Time Management🗃️: The transition into 7th grade also includes more homework so it’s important to know when assignments are due. It’s useful to ask mentors for tips on how they stay on top of work along with using your planner to sort when you’ll finish homework.
Studying📝: The assignments and tests are going to be more challenging as you move through middle school, so learning good study habits early on will be a great help! Here are some useful websites to help supplement learning across many subjects: Khan Academy & IXL Learning
Get Involved🤸: Going into a new grade can be challenging, especially when you’re having classes with new people. Joining clubs can be a great way to meet and connect with your peers, along with finding new interests for the year. Your teachers are also a great resource, so make sure to introduce yourself and build relationships; they can provide study tips and general advice for any topic you may be curious about.
Self-Care💆: The transition into a new school year can become overwhelming very quickly, so it’s important to always make time for yourself. Always talk with a trusted adult (like your mentor!) if you ever feel stressed or worried. Eating healthy, keeping active, and engaging in calming activities are some ways to keep stress at bay.
