Homework

I feel five and six year olds daily schedules are very long and they regularly come home exhausted. Often the students do not have enough time to unwind by playing outside, riding their bikes or playing sports. Instead of paper pencil homework tasks, I would like you to participate in nightly reading. I will be sending home a R.E.D. (Read Every Day) weekly folder with books for nightly reading during the second semester (January). Please find time each night to read with your child. These will go home on Mondays and will need to be returned each FRIDAY morning. New books will be added and sent home again each Monday. The more they read the better they will get. Our goal is to read 20 books each month.

Occasionally, I may send home “special” homework (i.e. finding environmental print, name/letter/number writing practice, 100th Day project).

***If you would like your child to have more homework, I can recommend individual activities to be completed.

We will be using Reading Eggs and Dreambox on the classroom computers. I highly recommend your child spend some time on these websites. Potomac Elementary hosts quarterly parties for the students that have accrued the required number of minutes on Reading Eggs. The students look forward to earning this reward.
