Historically, long-range library plans, which are required through Wisconsin Administrative Code PI 8.01(2)(h), have been integrated in district information and technology plans. With changes in requirements and forms of these plans, library plans have been left to stand on their own. Using the Future Ready Librarian framework as a guide, an up-to-date library plan using this model was first created for the Kewaskum School District Libraries and approved by the school board in February of 2020. The plan has been updated and will again need board approval, and will continue to be updated and approved every 3-5 years.
Having a long-range plan developed utilizing the Future Ready Librarian framework, allows for library programs to effectively increase student achievement, provide equitable resources to all, and be a key collaborative part of district learning initiatives. This site acts as a dynamic format of the plan and contains pages that represent each of the "wedges" of the Future Ready Librarians framework that all lead to learner centered literacy. Each page contains a short description of the wedge, along with what is currently being done in the KSD Library program, possible areas for growth, and links to artifacts when applicable. Four long range goals are also included in the plan and are listed below.
KSD libraries strive to be the hub of the learning community (students, staff, and community members) by providing flexibility and variety in both the physical library space and the collection, while fostering student centered learning.
In aligning with the library's mission of providing flexibility and variety in both the library's physical space and the collection, the inclusivity value of the district meeting the diverse needs of all students, and the district's vision of a learner that KSD grads are digital citizens, the KSD Library program will:
by the end of the 2024-25 school year, increase the amount of Spanish language books and resources in all of the district libraries. (Use of Space & Time) (Budget & Resources) (Learner Centered Literacy)
by the end of the 2024-25 school year, in collaboration with the technology and curriculum department, investigate Digital Literacy Learning programs that can be used district-wide, and implement an instructional plan for students to achieve the Digital Citizen Standards for Wisconsin Information and Technology Literacy. (Collaborative Leadership) (Data & Privacy) (Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment)
by the end of the 2025-26 school year, genrefy both of the elementary school libraries. (Use of Space & Time) (Learner Centered Literacy)
by the end of the 2026-27 school year, have a collection of library loaner chromebooks at each school that have an average purchase date of three years ago or less and fit the ratios of 1 chromebook per 20 students at the secondary level and 1 chromebook per 25 students at the elementary level. (Budget & Resources) (Robust Infrastructure)
by the end of the 2026-27 school year, verify that all district library books in the collection, and future purchases, meet criteria C (age-appropriateness) of the Selection of Materials section from Board Policy 2522. (Budget & Resources) (Use of Space & Time)
