DHHS Counseling - Dual Credit

What is Dual Credit?

A student is enrolled in a course which allows him/her to earn high school credit and college credit simultaneously. A student must meet certain academic criteria in order to be admitted to Dual Credit.

There are 4 categories of dual credit courses:

Dixie Campus Courses: These courses are taught on Dixie’s campus. Student must be present to attend.

Dixie Based Online Courses: These courses will be offered online, but composed of fellow Dixie students.

College Campus Courses: These courses are taught on the college campus. Students must provide their own transportation.

College Campus Online Courses: These courses are offered online, but comprised of college students.

Students are able to take classes through 4 participating Colleges and Universities.

Northern Kentucky University

Thomas More University

Gateway Community and Technical College

Eastern Kentucky University

Career Cohorts: Students must have at minimum a 2.0 GPA in order to apply for these programs.

Automotive -1/2 day program through Gateway 5 spots for incoming juniors, new seniors only if there is space, KCSD Transportation is provided

Electrical -1/2 day program through Gateway 5 spots for incoming juniors, new seniors only if there is space, KCSD Transportation is provided

HVAC-1/2 day program through Gateway 5 spots for incoming juniors, new seniors only if there is space, KCSD Transportation is provided

Lineman Program-Full time night school program or day program, NO KCSD Transportation

How much will it cost?

Dual credit courses are offered to high school students at a dual credit rate. The rate for the 25-26 school year is $97 per credit hour with most courses being 3 credit hours. Students are responsible for tuition, books and any certification tests. Juniors & Seniors are eligible to get 2 general education courses paid for each year through the Dual Credit Scholarship and 2 Work Ready Scholarship - these are career & technical education courses. It is the student's responsibility to apply for the scholarships (the process will begin in September) and to know which type of scholarship applies to the course(s) they are taking. Students are responsible for purchasing textbooks (whether print or online) and any other related materials/costs - even for classes that are covered by a scholarship. How do I apply for dual credit?

Students in grades 10-11 can apply for dual credit in the spring for the following school year. Students will be informed when these packets will become available through email, announcements, etc. Students have to apply through the university and Dixie for dual credit.
