When introducing students to Virtual Rooms for the first time, it can be an overwhelming experience for some students when presented with so many exploration options. By setting expectations up front with students, it will allow for differentiation, personalization, and provide student choice [over content, pace, expectations, interests, activities, etc.] when possible. Expectations can be defined by the teacher, or collaboratively designed by the class. Either way, the purpose is to keep the content of the Virtual Room at the center and ensure that students are staying on task with the sites and activities provided (unless otherwise directed).
Explore the Virtual Room below and think about how you might use a room like this type of room with your students. How would you set expectations for use of the Virtual Room below?
Starting today, you will have the opportunity to take what you learned and create your own Virtual Room. Each day your work will build upon the previous day and at the end of the course, you will have a Virtual Room you can use with your students.
🔑 Decide how you would like to set expectations for use of your Virtual Room - either by you or as a collective including students.
🗣️ Decide how you would like to make expectations clear for students. Will it be posted in the Virtual Room? Will it be displayed in your learning management system (Google Classroom, Canvas, Seesaw, Schoology, etc.)? Will it be written on the board in your classroom? Having clear expectations posted somewhere in a place where they can be reviewed with students can help work through situations that might arise in the future.
💺 Continue to add elements/objects to your Virtual Room, linking any websites to objects along the way.
