You might have noticed the use of 👍 emoji icons 👍 in previous days in the "Today's Task" section. This was intentional as part of the delivery and design of the information! In using visual context clues, you are providing visual (brainless) context for information and breaking up the text content. Another way to leverage visual context clues is to use simple and concise titles that are larger in font, bold, or even a different color. Some other ways to use visual context clues are:
Use color coding, emojis and images.
Images/emoji’s should support visual context
Use embedded and hyperlinks
In a Virtual Room, visual context clues are normally seen in the images used in the room or by linking images to other websites.
Explore the Virtual Room below and think about how you might use a room like this type of room with your students. How do you see visual context clues embedded in the design and delivery?
Note: This Virtual Room is an example of how you could use a Virtual Room as the point of reference for a digital escape room. Below the Virtual Room is a Google form for students to respond with their answers. In this case, this Virtual Room was created in Google Drawing so that it could easily be embedded on a Google Site so the user experience was a little more streamlined. Starting today, you will have the opportunity to take what you learned and create your own Virtual Room. Each day your work will build upon the previous day and at the end of the course, you will have a Virtual Room you can use with your students.
🔗 In your Virtual Room, start linking some of the objects you have placed in your room to websites or activities. Use elements of UDL as well as visual context clues to make the connection between the object and the link a little more intuitive. To link an object to a website:
Click on the object. Press CTRL+K (or CMD+K on a Mac) to open hyperlink box. Another way to access the hyperlink box is to click on the link button on the toolbar.
Type or paste a link and then press Apply.
💺 Continue to add additional elements to your room that fit into the UDL Guidelines or can be leveraged as context clues.
