A SEL Check In is exactly what the name says - checking in on someone's social-emotional health and learning. This can be done an a variety of ways - digital or even something as simple as a quick conversation.
If you are looking at starting your day with a quick check in, take a look at the presentation below (or click on the button to view the presentation) to view some different kinds of check ins. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but rather idea starters.

Check Ins provide students with an opportunity to self-reflect on how they are feeling and potentially identify or share needs or ask for help. Providing an opportunity for building self-awareness can help them become comfortable with identifying their feelings and advocating for themselves when they need help or support.
Some digital resources that can be used to check in with students are:
Learning Mangament Systems (Google Classroom / Schoology / Canvas / Seesaw)
Rukshana Ilahi, Kent ISD Mental Wellness Consultant
Self-awareness is a necessary skill for students to develop. We must create a culture that supports students exploring and defining how they feel. Check in’s are a way to normalize this practice and give students an opportunity to check in with themselves and with you. A quick minute can change the trajectory of how that student’s day will progress.
