Virtual Relaxation Rooms (sometimes called Calm Down Rooms) can be a powerful tool when implemented with PURPOSE and INTENTION. Parallels are often made between Virtual Relaxation Rooms and Bitmoji Classrooms as they incorporate the same aesthetic, design, and communication goals. Virtual Relaxation Rooms are digital "rooms" that are structured to provide students with a virtual environment that provides resources to support emotion regulation.
Rooted in culturally responsive teaching practices, Virtual Relaxation Rooms start with teachers having a deep understanding of the beliefs, culture, and behaviors of the students in their class. What excites their students? What is valued by students based on their home life or peer interactions? What do the students personally need to be successful in their learning? These are just a few things to keep in mind when analyzing known Virtual Relaxation Rooms and how they might fit the needs of students. What might be considered a relaxing environment for the teacher might not be considered a relaxing environment by the students.
Everyone has feelings and emotions and it is important that students learn how to not only identify their feelings, but work towards identifying positive ways to manage those feelings. In the article, "Why Creating a Virtual Calming Room is Important to a Student's Social and Emotional Learning," it is stated that "A calming room offers students a chance to chill out if they are experiencing levels of high anxiety or need a place to simply let go. Many colleges and universities, workplaces, and schools have implemented physical calming rooms to offer a place for people to go when they need to decompress." Also by structuring a room of relaxing/calm down options for students, teachers are providing choice in the learning as well as student emotional engagement.

Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a room that was filled with all the things needed to help students self-regulate. Virtual relaxation rooms can provide this resource that can be customized to the student’s needs.
