Teachers this year are feeling the pressure and burnout more than ever. There is mid-year teacher burnout, and then there is 2020 mid-year teacher burnout, which is a whole new level of burnout. The exhaustion, mental fatigue, and overall stress wears on one and it is important that teachers take care of themselves. We would like to take this midpoint of the 12 Days of EdTech Cheer to check in on you and offer some EdTech tools which can promote self care and mindfulness.
Self care looks different for each individual and what might might meet the needs on one person may cause more stress for another. Being respectful of individual needs is the first step in meeting your own needs! The quiz below is a short self-check as far as what might be causing you stress in your practice. Sometimes it is good to do a self-check to reset your mindset and attitude forward.
Yes, it is much easier said than done, but there are some small steps that you can take to help breathe a little easier at the end of the day. Below are some apps that can be used for FREE as an educator. They are great for personal use or you could even use some of the exercises with your students!
Monica Genta has a podcast called, This Teacher Life. She is a very animated speaker and recently shared her two of her strategies for managing the hectic teacher life - Marathon Monday that tapers into One Big Thing. Her approach is manageable and definitely something that most teachers can relate to! Take a listen to her podcast below to hear her share how she implements this in her own life to simplify managing "ALL of the teacher things."
Finally, here is an article on what it really means to "put your own oxygen mask on first." We have heard the phrase before and like mentioned before, it is much easier said than done. But putting your own "oxygen mask" on first allows you to be able to help the others around you. If you are not helping yourself first, you are fighting a futile battle in trying to effectively help those around you.
