What Should My Child Expect In The Classroom?
Highly capable students’ needs are met through an approach called differentiated instruction. This means the classroom teacher provides different avenues to learning based on areas of strength, readiness for challenge, and/or demonstrated need for support. These pathways to learning may include but are not limited to the use of the following strategies:
Unit/chapter pre-tests
Extension menus
Advanced questioning strategies
Content acceleration
Flexible grouping
Independent study
Independent projects
Tiered (leveled) assignments
Learning centers
As teachers keep their focus on best practices for student learning, differentiation exists as an invisible and seamless technique throughout the day, across content areas and within lessons.
