Dear Florence Falcon Families,
As we wrap up the first nine weeks of the school year, we are filled with pride and gratitude for all that our students, staff, and families have accomplished together. It has been a joy to see our Falcons soar as we’ve built strong foundations in learning and community!
Our students have been hard at work strengthening their skills in phonics, reading, and math, setting the stage for a successful year ahead. From mastering letter sounds to building number sense, it’s clear that the learning happening in our classrooms is both meaningful and exciting.
We also had a BLAST during our FUN Run! Thanks to the incredible generosity and support of our Florence families, we not only met our school-wide goal—we exceeded it! Because of this, our students have earned a whole-school PJ party… and yes, your principal, assistant principal, and counselor will be spending the night at school in conjunction with our PJ party day! We can’t wait to celebrate this amazing accomplishment with our students and show our appreciation for their hard work and teamwork.
This quarter, we also launched our new Backpack Tags Program as part of our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative. Every student received a ring and their very first tag to kick off the year! These collectible tags are a fun and visual way for students to track and celebrate milestones such as:
Meeting academic and personal goals
Showing outstanding character and leadership
Participating in schoolwide events and experiences
Students will continue to earn and add to their tag collections throughout the year, reinforcing positive behaviors and a love for learning in a meaningful and motivating way.
Thank you to all of our parents and guardians who participated in parent-teacher conferences—your involvement and partnership make a huge difference in your child’s educational journey. We are also incredibly grateful for our dedicated teachers who work tirelessly to create supportive, engaging classrooms where all students can thrive.
As we move into the second quarter, we look forward to continued growth, celebrations, and success. Thank you for being an essential part of our Falcon Family! Wishing you and your loved ones an enjoyable Fall Break!
With gratitude,
Warmly,
Courtney Brandel
Principal, Florence Elementary
We are excited to share some wonderful news with you! After a thorough and thoughtful search process over the past several weeks, we are pleased to announce that we will be officially welcoming Mrs. Jessica Bell as our newest 1st grade teacher at Florence Elementary School! Mrs. Bell has been serving as our long-term substitute and has done an exceptional job supporting and connecting with our students and with the first grade team. Her enthusiasm, professionalism, and dedication to student learning have been evident in her time with us so far. Mrs. Bell is no stranger to our FES community as she has been a familiar and friendly face on campus, both as a substitute teacher and as an active member of our PTA over the past few years. In addition to being a certified teacher, she has 15 years of teaching experience with a degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University as well as a Master of Education from Texas A&M-Commerce, bringing professional experience that will serve our students well. We are confident that her continued presence in the classroom will provide exceptional learning, consistency, and a strong sense of continuity for our students throughout the rest of the school year.

Thanks to the diligence of our amazing front office staff member, Mrs. Dimmitt, Florence Elementary has been selected to participate in this year's Braum's Book Buddy program to promote the program. For every 6 books that your child reads, they earn a Braum's treat! There are 6 total treats that can be earned throughout the year and once your child reads their books, you can take your coupon (in the brochure that was sent home this week) to the Braum's near you and claim your reading treat! Reading a book with your child counts, too, so enjoy the sweet side of reading together and tracking how many books your child reads!
On October 31, students are invited to dress up like a favorite character or something related to a favorite book! Students may wear their costume for the duration of the school day, so please ensure that they are able to sit, move, and participate in the day while wearing their costume. We ask that all costumes be school appropriate and follow general KISD student dress guidelines and pay attention to the following:
No scary, gory, or violent costumes
No masks that cover the student's face.
No weapons or pretend/toy weapons including swords, guns, knives, num-chuks, laser shooters, etc.
No inflatable costumes
Students must be able to move independently while wearing their costume and should be able to navigate and function in a regular classroom setting and hallways.
We encourage students to bring their book or a picture of their book along with their costume.
Parents are invited to join us for our outdoor parade that will begin around 8:50. More information coming soon!
We are continuing to work on mathematical fluency as a campus goal this year! We are jumping into some new math units over the next 9 weeks and encourage you to click on the link for your child's grade level SMORE. This document provides you with an overview of concepts that will be learned, common misconceptions, and ways you can help support your child's learning at home. There are also some fun games to help support our numerical fluency goals at home!
A huge thank you to our incredible PTA Homecoming Float Chair, Marsha Holmes, along with her husband, kids, and all of our amazing parent and student volunteers who brought this year's float to life! Your creativity, teamwork, and school spirit made "Florence in Paradise with Lilo & Stitch" a true show-stopper in the KHS Homecoming Parade on Monday. We're so grateful for the time, effort, and heart each of you poured into this project.
Thank you, also, to the FES families who rode in/walked alongside our float, and for those who donated all the nut-free candy to throw to spectators!
Our annual Fun Run was a success, and our students had a wonderful time running, doing fun obstacles, and getting to be outside with their friends! Special thanks to our FES Fun Run Chair, Amanda Smith, for all her hard work in putting this event together, and thanks to our parent volunteers for helping pass out Popsicles + distribute water to our students, and for all the check-in and tear-down help.
We also want to thank our amazing community for donating toward our goal of $30,000. As of Wednesday, Oct. 8, we have received $33,600 (and counting!), which will go directly toward Florence in the form of teacher grants, classroom resources, and school events.
Mark your calendars for one of the biggest family events of the year: the Florence Elementary Carnival & Silent Auction on Friday, Nov. 7 from 5-7:30 p.m.! Come enjoy games, food, and fun for the whole family while supporting our school.
Sponsors Needed
We're looking for sponsors to help make this year's Carnival the best one yet. Sponsorship levels range from Silver ($150) to Diamond (over $500) and include recognition in the yearbook, on banners, and at experience booths.
If you or your business are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact PTA Carnival Chair, Deborah Fleming: deborahfleming79@gmail.com; (817) 269-6676.
Additional Donations Needed
We need additional donations to make our Silent Auction a success! Each class at FES has a basket for the Silent Auction, and donations/contributions toward it are very appreciated.
Do you (or someone you know) own a small business, offer a service, or have something unique to contribute? Ideas include: spa services, photography sessions, gift cards, weekend stays (e.g. Broken Bow, South Padre Island, or other Airbnb/VRBOs), cabin getaways, or fun experiences. Big or small, every donation helps support our students!
All donations are tax-deductible and are a great way to give back to Florence while also getting your business name out in the community. If you'd like to donate or have questions, please reach out to PTA's Silent Auction Chair, Jocelyn Kaspar: jocelyn.kaspar@gmail.com; (580) 748-1664.
