Dear Families,
We have reached the halfway point of our school year, rounding out the 2nd nine weeks! The past few months have been filled with growth, learning, and meaningful connections, and I am incredibly proud of all that our students, staff, and families have accomplished together.
This week, we experienced several moments worth celebrating. We honored our beloved Nurse Sue as she prepares for retirement, recognizing her years of dedication, care, and compassion for our students and staff. Her impact on our campus will be felt for many years to come, and we wish her the very best in this next chapter.
We also celebrated our Character Awards recipients, highlighting students who consistently demonstrate respect. These students remind us daily of the values that make our school such a special place. In addition, our class parties gave us a joyful opportunity to celebrate the first half of the school year and to share in the excitement of the upcoming holiday season. The smiles, laughter, and sense of community made it a truly memorable time.
This past week, our Campus Educational Improvement Committee (CEIC) also came together for important and meaningful work. Through thoughtful discussion, celebration of our successes, and the sharing of ideas for the future, the committee helped shape a strong vision for continued growth and improvement on our campus. What a wonderful and inspiring time it was to reflect on where we are and where we are headed.
As we head into the break, I wish you and your family a season filled with rest, joy, and special moments together. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready to shine in 2026!
Merry Christmas and warmest holiday wishes,
Courtney Brandel

As we come back for our second semester, students will participate in the following Co-Curr classes: PE, Music and Theatre.
Students have enjoyed our Art class with Mrs. Wilson during first semester. As such, we look forward to welcoming our new theatre teacher, Mrs. Piontkowski will switch locations to teach the second portion of Co-Curr. Mrs. Wilson will be teaching Art at Friendship Elementary and Mrs. Piontkowski will be coming here and will teach our Theatre Co-Curr class. Thank you, Mrs. Wilson, for cultivating the talents of our artists this semester!
We are excited that we have completed our Middle of the Year MAP tests, and if you haven't already received it, your teacher will soon share your child’s Middle-of-Year (MOY) NWEA MAP Growth Report, which provides valuable information about your child’s academic progress in reading mathematics, and/or science. The MAP Growth assessment is an adaptive test that measures what students know and what they are ready to learn next. Because the test adjusts to each student’s individual performance, it offers a detailed picture of growth over time.
This report shows:
Your child’s RIT score, which reflects their instructional level and helps guide classroom planning.
Growth from the beginning of the year, showing how your child is progressing toward their academic goals.
Projected growth for the remainder of the year, based on national norms.
Teachers use this information, along with classroom work, observations, and other assessments, to support your child’s learning and provide instruction that meets their individual needs.
We encourage you to review the report and talk with your child about their progress. A simple conversation about goals and effort can make a meaningful difference in motivation and confidence. If you have questions about the results or how we use MAP Growth to support student learning, please reach out to your child’s teacher or campus administrator.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s success. We are proud of the hard work our students are putting in, and we look forward to celebrating their continued growth throughout the remainder of the school year.
As a special holiday treat, FES PTA was honored to provide lunch today (Friday, Dec. 19) for our teachers and staff after our students left for the day! They enjoyed a delicious meal from Oliva Italian Eatery and sweet treats from Sugar Llamas. Thank you to PTA Hospitality Chair Cassie Matthews and the PTA Hospitality team for coordinating this meal for our amazing teachers and staff!
It's time for our annual Yearbook Cover Contest, and we can't wait to see our Falcons' imaginations S.H.I.N.E.! All students are invited to design a cover for our 2025-2026 yearbook that reflects this year's theme: "Your Future is Bright.'
Entries should be created on 8.5 x 11 in. paper with a border left around the edges to ensure the artwork isn't cut off when uploaded. Please ensure your child's name and teacher are written in pencil on the back of their submission. All entries are due to the front office by Jan. 9. We can't wait to see what our students come up with!
Do you (or someone you know) work in a STEM field? We’d love to have you host a table at our annual STEM Night and Science Fair on Jan. 15!
