Title: Vassiliev filtration and Varchenko-Gelfand filtration

Abstract: Knots and Links arise from embeddings of 1-dimensional spheres (circles) into 3-dimensional space. In this talk, we consider a "lower dimensional analogue" of links, namely, embeddings of 0-dimensional spheres (points) into 1-dimensional space. Then the space of links is expressed as the complement to a real hyperplane arrangement. We will discuss the relationship between Vassiliev theory and the Varchenko-Gelfand ring of a real hyperplane arrangement.
