Students working at Level 3 will be able to: 

Recognise and write compound sentences. 

Recognise and use complex sentences. 

Recognise and use fronted adverbials in complex sentences

Uses embedded clauses to add detail in my sentences. 

Recognise when a sentence is passive or active and use the passive in my own writing.

Use modal verbs to say how likely something is to happen.  

Use expanded noun phrases to add extra detail to my writing. 

Students working at Level 4 will be able to: 

use a variety of sentence structures, beginnings and lengths to give effect

use complex sentences that are grammatically correct
