The Tays Symphonic Winds is the top performing ensemble in the TJH Band. It is composed of 7th and 8th grade students based on end of the year auditions. The Symphonic Winds plays the most technically challenging music in the program.
Fall Semester: Symphonic Winds students are expected to audition for Region Band and perform at two concerts in the fall semester. Students will attend a once a week sectional in September and October where they will work on the region audition music. Students will also prepare music for a fall and winter concert in the fall semester.
Spring Semester: Symphonic Winds students are expected to perform a solo at Solo and Ensemble contest and perform at three concerts in the spring semester. Students will attend two rehearsals with a piano accompanist in January for Solo and Ensemble. Then, students will attend a once a week sectional in February and March where they will work on their UIL concert music. Students will attend the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation in March. Students will also prepare music for a Pre-UIL and spring concert in the spring semester.
Athletics: Concerning conflicts with athletics, we work closely with the TJH coaches to ensure that students can participate in sectionals, practices, tryouts, concerts and games during all semesters.
