Tays Junior High Jazz Bands

The Tays Jazz Bands are extracurricular ensembles open to any 7th or 8th grader in the band program. Students meet during the Advisory period four days a week and perform at concerts throughout the year. At the Tays Band, we offer two Jazz Bands. Students in The Tays Jazz Ensemble: An audition will take place and the students will play more technically challenging music and are composed of a smaller number of students. The Tays Lab Band is a non-auditioned ensemble that plays less technically challenging music and is composed of a larger number of students.

Jazz Band Responsibilities 

Jazz band is a non-required ensemble. Jazz music is a different style than is played in the other performing ensembles. The jazz bands meet for only 2 hours a week instead of the 3.75 hours that the other performing ensembles meet. Students will work at a fast pace in jazz rehearsals learning new music, genres, improv, and new musical skills. The Jazz bands perform an estimate of 5-7 concerts throughout the year.
