Geography is a highly respected subject that will help you develop a sense of wonder and fascination about the increasingly globalised world we live in. A range of physical and human geography topics, plus fieldwork opportunities, will ensure you will leave KAA as a confident, skilled and informed global citizen ready to take your place in our complex world.
Due first week of September
Through these units, KAA geographers will investigate, explore and assess:
the causes, effects and responses to tectonic hazards
the physical/human processes in coastal areas
how places are shaped, regeneration and the meaning attached to them
water security, future water conflict
the carbon cycle and future energy security/potential conflict
globalisation and the influence of global superpowers
the causes, impacts and management of migration and issues of sovereignty
Employers and universities value the range of transferable skills that geography also delivers and will know that a geography student is equally at home gathering fieldwork data, using GIS, analysing case studies or writing extended essays.
To ensure our KAA geographers hit the ground running when they start A-level geography in September, we have set weekly tasks based on the key concepts which underpin geography (all explained in the sessions below) and related them to issues that are currently happening in the world around us to bring the concepts to life.
It would be a shame for you not to take part in those lessons too, so we have posted them below. To complete each weekly task, follow the following instructions:
Click on the tasks in order
Open the loom video and the worksheet attached
Watch the loom video - My apologies for any direct KAA references, you will soon feel part of the KAA team when you join us!
Pause the video when instructed and complete the activities
Email me if you have any questions at O.Birks@kaa.org.uk
We hope you enjoy the activities and look forward to meeting you in September.
