Illustration is a wide field within art and can encompass different media, techniques and career paths. An illustrator may produce work for commissions, where they have been asked to create a specific artwork or display and sell their work in galleries. Illustration is the visual representation or explanation of a concept and may be designed for use in posters, magazines, books, fashion, animation or game design.
An illustrator may have their style of working and choose to use media or techniques they feel most confident with or have a more diverse range of abilities and create work using different media and techniques, depending on the commission. Illustrations can be created digitally, by hand or combining both methods.
