Purpose: The purpose of this test is to verify that our product follows the COVID-19 guidelines so that along with preventing acne, it will also prevent the spread of germs from person to person. The mask needs to be wearable and breathable.
Overview of Procedure: Have the mask on hand to bring to the professional. Present the mask to the professional and allow the professional to analyze it. Listen to the professional’s feedback. Have them confirm that the mask follows COVID guidelines.
Pass Criteria: The mask will pass this test if professionals declare that it passes COVID-19 guidelines and the professionals approve of our overall mask.
Test Data: According to the doctor we asked, the mask we created looks like it fits the face perfectly and accurately follows the strict COVID-19 guidelines. It covers the nose and mouth perfectly and if it additionally prevented acne, it would be a very effective mask to use. The thin layer of cotton prevents bacteria from spreading and is also breathable to the user; the addition of silk helps decrease breakouts, but still keeps the mask breathable.
Analysis: Based on the comments we received, our mask fits the face properly and would be safe to wear!
Purpose: To insure when placed in the washing machine, the mask will still be wearable and effective.
Overview of Procedure: Place the fully complete mask in the washing machine. Select quick wash and allow it to run fully. Once completed the first time, repeat two more times.
Pass Criteria: We will wash the mask for 3 cycles in the washing machine to make sure that the stitches stay in place and that it does not fall apart. 90% of the stitches have to be in place after the 3 cycles.
Test Data: Throughout all three of the quick wash cycles, the fully complete mask stayed intact. Data is shown in the images below.
Analysis: Based on the testing table above and the pass criteria, the mask is okay to wear and will not fall apart! It can easily be washed and re-worn.
Purpose: To make sure that the mask is acceptable weight and size, so that the mask covers the nose and mouth area without having to be too heavy.
Overview of Procedure: We took our final model of the mask, and then weighed it on a scale. After this, we measured it with a ruler and compared these measurements to the size and weight of typical masks.
Pass Criteria: We will test the mask by weighing it with a scale and measuring it with a ruler to make sure that it is the correct size and weight. The mask has to be 8 inches wide and 4 inches long and has to weigh around 2-3.5 g.
Test data: The weight of the mask was 2.5 grams and the size was 8 inches by 4 inches.
Analysis: According to the criteria, the mask was within the range of 2-3.5 grams. According to this data, the mask passes the test and therefore will fit the average person!
Purpose: To check with stakeholders to see if they find our mask pleasing the eye so that people will want to purchase the mask
Overview of Procedure: We created a survey where we inserted an image of our mask, and then asked if they found it aesthetically pleasing, if they would wear it if it prevented acne, and if they had any additional comments. We then compared the responses.
Pass Criteria: In order to consider this factor a pass, 70% of people surveyed must agree that our mask is aesthetically pleasing. We aim to survey at least 50 people since that is close to the number of people from the initial survey.
Analysis: Out of 105 participants, more than 70% of people of the survey-takers found our mask to be aesthetic, so it passes the aesthetics test! Mostly everyone (96.2%) said they would purchase the mask if it prevented acne, and the people who didn’t said that they did not face problems with acne. The only negative comments we received talked about the stray strings coming off the sides of the mask, which are going to be cut off.
