Patent #1:
Patent Name: Methods and Devices for Treating Skin
Patent Number: US10307587B2
Summary: The item includes many reservoirs combined with a substrate. It then includes a reducing agent and an oxidizing agent. Combining these creates an environment in which acne can be broken down and cured. It is built to create a low electrical field that can almost zap the acne. It includes a figure that looks almost like a bandaid that has chemicals to help heal acne. It looks as though the acne could be most used for the person’s back as shown in the figure below.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Although it may be specified to other parts of the body, we could
potentially use it to work on a solution for the face. The downside to this product is that it seems
very complex and harder to understand because it is a very unique solution. It deals with very
complex parts of chemicals such as working with substrates and more.

Patent #2:
Patent Name: Method and Apparatus For Acne Treatment Using Low Intensity Light Therapy
Patent Number: US9227082B2
Summary:
This article is about a disclosed system and method for treatment of skin disorders.
More Particularly, the disclosed invention is directed toward the reduction of acne and acne
related bacteria using low-intensity light therapy. The skin containing acne bacteria is
treated with a series of pulses of light from a light emitting diode. The LED has a
dominant emissive wavelength of about 660 nm and an energy output of about 4 m W. The
acne bacteria-containing tissue is exposed to pulses from the light source about
100 times for about 250 milliseconds per pulse, with an interpulse interval of about 100
Milliseconds.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
This shows us that light can be used to help with acne and maybe we can use some sort of
light to help with it. But it would be hard to do that because would be need to charge it and
what if it's too much of a hassle to put on a mask.

Patent #3:
Patent Name: A kind of Chinese medicine viscose healthcare face fabric
Patent Number: CN104178834B
Summary:
This article talks about traditional Chinese medicine that has been implemented
into cloth. This medicine is called viscose and is closest to raw cotton and bamboo wood, which
is then combined into cellulose pulp that is mixed with traditional Chinese medicine powder.
This concoction, when implemented into fabric, is said to have all of the same benefits of a
normal mask, but also provides a healthcare benefit and keeps away breakouts.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
This patent can help solve our problem because it is a medicine that is implemented into cloth
which can be made into masks. A good attribute is that it is an effective solution, but a bad
attribute is that the materials will be hard to get. I think that a unique aspect is that it involves a
traditional Chinese medicine powder which has a lot of natural materials which is always a plus.

Patent #4:
Patent Name: Acne Patch
Patent Number: US6495158B1
Summary:
An acne patch is small and has a flexible backing on the front and back side. The patch also
includes a therapeutic formula on and in at least a portion of the front side of the backing.
This formula includes a topical acne drug, a solvent that dissolves the acne drug, and a
pressure sensitive adhesive. When pressed onto skin and kept there, it sticks to skin and will
over time help to prevent acne (if worn regularly).
Strengths and Weaknesses:
While this product does not specifically prevent breakouts from mask-wearing, it
does give a possible solution to acne/skin problems in general, which we can use and apply
it to mask wearing. It is small and convenient to the users. However, these patches use
drugs and other solvent products that we probably will not be able to use. This could also
require chemical engineering.

This matrix was used based on our problem of the coronavirus and how it affects people’s skin based on masks. We used the five criteria that we did in order to make a decision that would effectively choose the best previous solutions. We needed to make sure that the solution was accessible and convenient for people because many people need it fast. We knew that people would want an affordable option because of covid and possible loss of jobs or cut in pay. It is important to our group personally that the product is eco-friendly and would not cause any unnecessary harm. Lastly, we needed to make sure that our previous products would be relevant in today’s world which was pretty easy because our problem is dealing with the coronavirus.
