Hero's Jorney

Hero´s Journey

“I’m bored, nothing ever happens in my life” James stated, but he didn’t know what there was to come. James was a normal 9-year-old boy, for now at least. He always saw exciting news stories about kids doing crazy cool, and great things, he wished he was known for something great.

It was a normal, basic, average Monday and James was sitting at his desk clicking his pen while his teacher was explaining what was going to happen at the fundraiser on Saturday. “James are you paying attention?!”, “yep, you bet” he said unenthusiastically and started to draw a llama. The bell soon rang indicating school was over.

As James was walking home it started to sprinkle, then it turned to pouring. He still had his picture in his hand it was starting to get wet so he quickly folded it up and put it in his jacket and ran home. He sprinted into his house not realizing his cat was by the door and tripped on her. “Pumpkin!” he exclaimed. His drawing flew out of his and landed in his muddy footprints by the door.

The character in the picture slowly lifted out from the notebook paper he drew it on in class. “Hello, I’m Llama and you are…” questioned Llama? “James” he replied. “I should have known that you are my creator”. James took a second to gather his thoughts. “Wait a minute. What is going on and how are you alive and talking to me? Drawings shouldn’t talk, oh goodness I am going crazy, aren’t I?” Llama just stood there (she was only 1.5 feet tall) looking confused why James seemed so worried. “Could you just explain to me what is going on? James simply asked, confused. “Well you see, that pen you used to draw me, you know the one your mom got you for your Birthday? Well anyways, that pen has a certain reaction to food that causes whatever you are writing to come to life. Cool, right?”. “Yeah, but how did my paper encounter any food, I never put my paper by any food?” he wondered. “Well did you step in any food at school like in the cafeteria or something?” she replied. “Oh, wait a minute I think I stepped on somebody’s sandwich by accident in the cafeteria!” he said. “That was probably it when your shoes got wet in the rain and you tracked water in the house traces of the sandwich you had gotten on your shoe.”

. “Is there a name I should call you besides Llama? I just feel like Llama is just not what your name should be, because that is already what you are as a character.” James asked. “Well it is up to you to decide my name, since you are my creator” she replied. “Ok let’s see. Out of these names which do you like best? Leana(lee-na), Lola, or Luna?” He asked. “I like Lola the best.” She answered. “Lola it is then!” He replied with enthusiasm.

” Since you know how to use the pen you need to come to the world of skechsville.” Lola stated. “Wait there is a world for all of the sketches by the same type of pen?!” James said intrigued. “yeah of course, let’s go!” exclaimed Llama. “To enter skechsville you draw a circle on the floor and pour the special liquid that is given to all sketches when they are created” she said excitedly.

They drew the circle on the ground and poured the sparkling silver liquid on top of it. To his surprise the circle turned to into a swirling portal that almost looked like a galaxy. Lola stepped into the portal, and James followed her.

This world was filled with creatures with multiple heads, colorful skin, and just abnormal shapes in general. “Follow me, we have to show you how to use the pen properly and how to fend off monsters that are/could be dangerous” Lola explained.

They walked over to this colorful building filled with only colorful walls with words above them. Lola looked around for a second then walked over to a lavender colored wall with the words True Artist defender written over it. “Here’s our stop!” she finally said. James just stood there confused by what she meant. Lola thought for a second then knocked on the wall six times, tapped it with one finger in the shape of a circle, then rubbed her hand on the wall up and down.

Then all the sudden the wall sparkled, then spun around and stopped. James blinked a bit to come to realization that a door appeared. “Woah that is cool!” James said in amazement. Lola opened the door and they both stepped through to see a room with green walls and blue furniture.

Lola walked over to a door with a plate next to it that said Unkie’s (oon-kie) pen usage lessons. They walked into the door to see a unicorn sitting at a desk. He had a purple sparkly mane and green eyes. “you must be Unkie this is my friend James and he would like to learn how to use the magical pen” Lola Told him. “Great, we can even start the lessons now!” Unkie replied.

“Do you have the pen with you?” Unkie asked. “Um…yes I do, I forgot it was even in my pocket!” James said surprised.

James and Unkie spent four hours learning how to properly use the pen, how to give the characters cool features, and\ how to fend off bad characters. I am impressed at the amount of skills you have learned today” Unkie said. “Just a little more practice and you will be almost an expert” He said with delight. “Thank you Mr. Unkie, I will see you soon” replied James.

“We should probably get going it is getting late” said James. “Actually, when you get back to your world it will be the same time as you left it” Lola explained. to James. “That is so cool” James exclaimed.

They started off back to the entrance of the world when they ran into a big, Hairy, horned monster. Everyone around them was running off and hiding. James was unaware who this monster was, so he didn’t think much of it. “Hello little, runt what are you doing on my turf?!” the monster growled. “I’m, I’m, just heading back home” James said confidently. “Well this is MY territory on you are on it!” the monster roared. The monster started to throw a punch at James when he remembered his training. He took his pen out of his pocket and as the monster came closer he ran up to him and drew an X on the monster then unscrewed the end of the pen and poured a drop of metallic ink on the monster while dodging the punches the monster was throwing at him. The monster started to shrink and dissolve.

Everyone cheered “human, Human, Human!”. “His name is James” Lola whispered. The creatures stopped for a second to comprehend, then started chanting “James, James, James!”. “Oh, it was no big deal” James said embarrassingly. James and Lola both left the door while everyone continued to cheer him on.

They finally appeared back in New Jersey. “Wow it is really the exact same time since we left, nothing has changed!” James said excitedly.

James decided he would turn on the news and see what was going on with the world. He sat down and turned on the television. “Breaking news has just been sent to us, apparently there is a hurricane that will strike through New Jersey” the man on the television announced. Lola and James were panicking. They rushed all over the house looking for something to board up the windows and doors. “Aha I found some wooden plank for a project he had done about the different types of wood” James said sort of relived but still in a panic stage. They went to the garage and found some nails and a hammer. They ran around the house boarding up every window and door they could find.

“Finally, every window and door I could find is boarded up” James said with a sigh of relief to Lola. Ring, Ring, James Looked at his phone to see that it was his mom calling. He answered it and his mom said anxiously “Jamie, sweetie I am not allowed to leave work because of the hurricane, I have tried to tell them that I need to get home to you but they won’t listen. Your father should be home soon, bye honey”. “Bye” James replied.

Knock, knock James ran over to the door and started to undo the boards. “James hurry up and open the door!” his father yelled worried. James finally got the door open and his father ran inside and helped him board back up the door as Lola hid in James’ pocket. “you did a nice job protecting the house, I’m impressed.” His dad said with encouragement. “Thanks dad!” James replied happily.

“Ok son we will go upstairs because it is the highest point in the house and it has the least likely place of being flooded in the house” His dad said confidently. “But will the house collapse?” James said in fear. “This house is very sturdy I won’t collapse, there is no need worry” Jams’ dad said.

They both ran upstairs. James went into his room and started to call his friends and ask if they were ok.

As he was sitting in his room he heard splashing downstairs. He peered by the stairs to see that the whole bottom floor was flooded. “Oh no!” he yelled. James had forgotten that his backpack was downstairs, and his coke was left open and was mixed in with the water, were it was flooded. He could see as the creatures started to slowly emerge from the papers. The creatures were growing bigger and bigger because of the amount of soda-water that they were being submerged in.

The drawings were starting to climb up the stairs while James was freaking out trying to think about what to do. Think, think, think, but all he could think about is THINK. Then he remembered you draw an X on the creature then open the bottom of the pen and pour the silver liquid on top of the creature.

“I have an idea!” James yelled as he was running to his bathroom to pour the silver liquid into a spray bottle so he could make more than one monster disappear at a Lola scurried out of one room, into the bathroom. “Ok, Lola take my pen and draw X’s on all of the monsters but be careful, they seem vicious. They are very slow though.” James explained.

Lola ran around drawing X’s on each monster, but Lola had no problem dodging the monsters because she is so small. Then James sprinted around the spraying them with the silver liquid till they all shrunk and dissolved.

“Great job Lola, and thanks for helping me!” exclaimed. “Oh, it was no big deal!” Lola replied. James, Lola, and James’ father all waited upstairs till help came.

Luckily not much was damaged the walls just had to be replaced. James’ family stayed at a hotel that night because it would have been difficult to stay in their house while the walls were being replaced. When James discussed what happened, at first, they didn’t believe him but then he showed them Lola and she helped explain what happened. Then they all would visit skechsville to hand out with all the drawings
