Course Description
Yearbook is a hands-on course in which students work together to create the school yearbook. Students will learn the fundamentals of yearbook production, including photography, graphic design, page layout, journalism, interviewing, writing, editing, organization, and project management.
Students will be responsible for gathering information, taking photographs, conducting interviews, writing stories and captions, designing pages, meeting deadlines, and helping produce a finished yearbook that represents the school year.
Because the yearbook is a publication created for the entire school, students will be expected to work cooperatively, meet deadlines, communicate professionally, and take responsibility for their assigned areas.
Course Goals
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Explain the purpose and importance of a yearbook.
Use basic photography techniques to capture quality photographs.
Take photographs that tell a story and represent school life.
Write effective captions, headlines, and short stories.
Conduct and document interviews.
Organize photographs and information efficiently.
Apply principles of graphic design and visual communication.
Create balanced and visually appealing page layouts.
Use appropriate fonts, colors, images, and design elements.
Proofread and edit written content.
Work effectively as part of a publication team.
Meet individual and group deadlines.
Demonstrate responsible use of photographs and information.
Evaluate pages for accuracy, design, and completeness.
Contribute to the production of the completed yearbook.
