Academic Advising

Graduation Requirements

South Dakota DOE changed the graduation requirements effective class of 2021. This is allowing students to choose from more options vs the previous one size fits all approach. This also gives students more ownership to plan for their futures, allowing students to choose courses that align with their plans after High School.

Scholarships

The Seniors at McCook Central High School are fortunate to have several local scholarship options to apply for. Applying for scholarships may not be fun, but it's totally worth it! If you approach this task with a 'job' mindset, it may make it easier to take the time to apply. Think of it this way.... You spend one hour completing a $500 scholarship and win, you just got paid $500 an hour. That is well worth time.

Post-Secondary

Making plans for life after High School is more important than ever before. Whether your plan entails college, military or a career I am here to help.

Financial Aid is a critical part of the process when continuing your education. The Free application for federal financial aid (FAFSA) opens Oct. 1 for seniors. I encourage you to complete this step as soon as possible to potentially maximize aid received. But first, both the student and the parent/guardian need to create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSAID).

Some students know exactly what they plan to do after High School, while others are not so sure. There are several career inventories out there to assist students with their post-secondary plans. Be thinking about your individual strengths and what you enjoy doing. If there is overlap in these two areas students have a pretty good direction on careers to explore.
