Counseling Services

School Counselors work to promote a safe learning environment for all members of the school community and regularly monitor and respond to behavior issues that impact school climate. Support provided can be therapeutic, but the role of a school counselor is not to diagnose or provide therapy. We are able to provide temporary/short-term support to help students overcome acute issues having an impact on their school performance. We are a resource similar to the school nurse in that she can provide screening and band aids. We are fortunate here are McCook Central to have Licensed mental health counselor in our school providing the ongoing therapy and additional resources that are sometimes needed by families and children.

If there are concerns that need more consistent and comprehensive services beyond this counselor will work with families to identify an agency in which to refer the student to.

We currently have a therapist from Southeastern Behavioral that comes into the school to provide long-term services.Â
