Students were introduced to Wayne Thiebaud, a famous American painter who just turned 100 years old and is still doing art! He is most known for his paintings of desserts, a middle school favorite.
Students drew and fancifully decorated pies, cakes, or cupcakes. Then they cut out the desserts and arranged them in a composition that pleased their eye. Students paid attention to the arrangement (foreground, middleground, and background).
On wrapping paper or a recycled paper bag, they drew the shadows with a blue pencil or crayon, in the style of Wayne Thiebaud.
