U.S. Senator Brian Schatz's High School Internship Program
U.S. Senator Brian Schatz's high school internship program provides a hands-on learning opportunity and encourages students to be leaders and advocates in their schools and communities. High school interns in Senator Schatz's office meet weekly via video conference to complete projects throughout the course of their internship. Previous classes have conducted peer surveys, attended community meetings, tracked how federal legislation impacts their communities, and learned how to propose the office take action on issues that are important to them.
The internship runs from late September - April, and interns must commit for the full term. This is a virtual internship, and the work is designed to be completed outside of school hours. The program uses online tools and communication methods, so students from all islands are encouraged to apply.
Public, private, charter, and homeschool students in the State of Hawai‘i may apply. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or better and have access to email throughout the internship. Interns will be selected based on their involvement in their community and diversity of interests. Student government experience is not required. Strong preference is given to students in their last year of school. Underclassmen who are interested in the program should contact the office before applying.
Applications for the 2025 - 26 school year are due before 12:00pm HT on Wednesday, August 20.
