What is FAFSA?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form to apply for financial aid for college. You must submit a FAFSA form for each school year in which you want to be considered for federal student aid.

Why FAFSA?

In addition to finding out if you are eligible to receive federal grants, qualify for work-study, or being offered loans, many states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for state and school aid. Some private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid.

How do I apply?

Before you apply, you will need to create an FSA ID for both you and a parent. The FSA ID allows students and parents to identify themselves electronically to access Federal Student Aid websites. Once your FSA ID is created and confirmed, you can go to fafsa.ed.gov to apply. Visit the website for a list of documents/information you'll need to complete the FAFSA.

When can I apply?

The FAFSA application for students entering college in the 2024-25 SY will become available online in December 2024. Many states and colleges set priority deadlines by which you must submit the FAFSA form to be considered for the aid  administer. Check with the college(s) you are interested in attending. There is also a federal deadline each academic year.
