There are several options to play varsity sports in college but it is important to know the direction you are considering, early in your high school career, so that you can make sure to meet the eligibility criteria.
NCAA: National Collegiate Athletic Association
The NCAA is the largest and most well known of college associations. These are typically the college sports teams that you can see on TV. The NCAA oversees three levels of play which each has their own eligibility requirements for High school recruits.Â
NAIA: National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
The NAIA is smaller than the NCAA and often includes smaller colleges and universities, especially those with religious affiliations.
NJCAA: National Junior College Athletic Association
The NJCAA is a national organization that governs intercollegiate athletic programs for junior colleges and community colleges (2 year) across the United States. It provides a platform for student-athletes to compete at a high level while pursuing their academic goals.
