The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) measure what you're learning in school, determine if you're on track, and open doors for opportunities to prepare and pay for college. As part of the SAT Suite of Assessments, it's designed to help prepare students for the SAT, college, and careers. Historically, students who took the PSAT/NMSQT scored higher on the SAT, on average, than those who didn’t take the test. Scores are used by scholarship programs, including the National Merit® Scholarship Program, to look for eligible students.
This is the Pre SAT mainly for Juniors, however sophomores can take it as well. There will probably be a cost involved to the students but that amount has not yet been determined. Students may sign up in the Transition Center in B-4.
Some community colleges, including all University of Hawai'i Community Colleges, use the ACCUPLACER placement test to assess students' current skills in mathematics, reading, and writing.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a timed, multi-aptitude test. It not only helps determine whether you are a good fit to join the military, but also which service branch you might be best for and even what military jobs you can hold after you finish basic training or boot camp. The better your ASVAB score, the broader your options. The ASVAB is required if students plan to enlist in the military. It can be a helpful tool to determine what careers you might be good at.
The ASVAB is administered at KHS several times a year. It is recommended to take it in your junior and/or senior year however it is open to take in 10th grade. There is no cost to take this 3 hour exam. Sign up in the Transition Center.
