HIDOE Hawaii Online Courses provides standards-based, online classes for Hawaii's students. Students enrolled in any HIDOE public school can take these supplemental online courses in addition to their regular classes.
*Charter schools will not be accepted beginning the SY 2026-2027 academic year to prioritize service delivery to HIDOE students. During the summer, priority will be given to HIDOE students, and registration will be subject to a fee and only granted if space is available.
To ensure student success, partner schools are expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
Designate a School Site Facilitator: Provide an onsite contact to serve as the liaison between the school and Hawaii Online Courses (HOC). This facilitator acts as an advocate for both the student and the teacher and is integral to the success of the coursework. Please read the Site Facilitator Handbook for detailed information.
Offer HOC as an educational option and notify families and students of the opportunities and benefits it provides.
Verify Eligibility: Adopt policies to identify students suited for online learning. Ensure selected courses are appropriate based on the student's academic history, age, and grade level.
Manage Registration: Register students for courses during the regular school year (Note: This does not apply to HOC Summer School).
Provide Technology Support: specific to the learning environment:
On-Campus: Provide access to computers with internet capability.
Off-Campus: Inform students of the necessary hardware, software, and internet requirements.
Accept final course grades as determined by Hawaii Online Courses.
Administer Testing:
Assume responsibility for ordering, funding, and administering Advanced Placement (AP) exams in accordance with College Board guidelines.
Assume responsibility for mandatory state-wide testing (e.g., end-of-course exams, SBAC).
