Title III funds may be used to fund extended learning opportunities (ELOs) which must occur outside of the school day to help ELs in English Language Development (ELD) as well as overall academic achievement. ELOs are for target language support for EL students to improve ELD and cannot supplant or replace a core language instructional education program or LIEP.
Title III funding may support ELOs in the following activities/supports:
Teachers for before-school, after-school, summer, intersession, or weekend ELOs
Curriculum/materials/resources/software for the ELO to support English development and/or content achievement (as long as requested item is 1.) not currently funded through a non-Title III funding source and 2.) not used as part of core LIEP during the school day)
ELO Coordinator position (at the Complex Area or District level) to coordinate and manage multiple ELOs across a complex area or district
Translators or interpreters needed to disseminate ELO information to students and teachers
