The five year Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE) Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) English Learner Data Disaggregation Grant (Award No. T365D16006 - 17) is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition. The purpose of the AAPI Grant is to provide EL educators at the state, complex area, and school levels with actionable information to better understand and close achievement and opportunity gaps for their EL populations.
Augment EL Program components in eCSSS by collecting EL curricula data;
Develop and pilot a Self-Reflection Tool to inform school Comprehensive EL Plan;
Develop reports that link eCSSS EL Program components to EL outcomes;
Engage with EL educators and relevant stakeholders to use and revise reports to identify best practices for EL students;
Engage with EL educators and relevant stakeholders to discuss how to scale up best practices from the classroom to complex areas to statewide; and
Communicate findings and lessons learned

A report on education outcomes for Hawaii public school students who are identified as English Learners, titled Serving Hawai'i's English Learners was developed through the AAPI grant in collaboration with Hawaii's P-20 Partnerships for Education with data provided by the Hawai'i Data eXchange Partnership.
An multi year online version of the report has been developed through the P-20 Data eXchange Partnership as the Data Story: English Learners. This Data Story provides an interactive way to view the report data.
