MONTHLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETINGS

HI HOSA State Officers report information concerning updates and new announcements during monthly Executive Council Meetings. The meetings usually include the treasurer's report, old business for past events, new business for upcoming events, and announcements. HOSA members and advisors from all chapters are invited to attend these meetings to receive up-to-date information and also make their voices heard. We highly encourage all members to attend our monthly Executive Council Meetings so we can hear their opinions and voices to make this HOSA year as successful and memorable as possible.

Executive Council Meetings are usually held at Moanalua High School in Room F-203 from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM or virtually on Zoom or Google Meets.

2020 VIRTUAL FALL LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP

The Hawaii HOSA State Officers conduct an annual Fall Leadership Workshop (FLW) in November to develop and enhance our chapter officers and members’ leadership skills so they can bring it back to their respective chapters. The State Officers incorporate lessons they learned throughout their term in office, and at the annual Global Leadership Academy (formally known as Washington Leadership Academy) in September conducted by the International HOSA Officers. If you would like to join us this year for our Virtual Fall Leadership Workshop, "Impact and Ignite", please stay tuned for more information!

PIN DESIGN CONTEST

Another part of the State Leadership Conference is our Pin Design Contest which is held beforehand. Every year, we ask Hawaii HOSA members to submit designs for a lapel pin that represents Hawaii. Then, all members across the state vote among the slate of designs and select which design will represent us that year. Members who submit their designs are given the chance to have their design represent the entire state delegation. These pins are worn at our State and International Leadership Conference (ILC) which is held in June. The winning pin will then by traded with thousands of students across the globe internationally at ILC!

Student Testimonials

"HOSA has given me many things, HOSA has taught me about myself, how to lead, and how to pursue a career in the health field. I have made many lifelong friends along the way. Joining HOSA was one of the best decision that I have ever made."

- Julie Chun, 2019-2020 Hawaii HOSA State Treasurer (Class of 2020)

"HOSA has given me the best three years of high school filled with amazing people, opportunities, and takeaways. My biggest takeaway from HOSA is to risk take. Being someone who has struggled with public speaking for a very long time, I never thought that I would have ever been capable to run for such a prestigious position. However, taking a leap of faith and running for state officer has taught me that risk taking is so important. No matter how much uncertainty there is when taking a risk, it's important to push against all your fears and believe in yourself. Taking risks may just lead you to the perfect opportunity. However, no matter the outcome, you will surely grow through the process and become even more resilient and confident. I'm forever thankful to have taken this risk through HOSA, and have experienced so many amazing things I never would have imagined for myself!"

- Paula Saladino, 2019-2020 Hawaii HOSA State Historian (Class of 2020)

"HOSA has helped me build self confidence through public speaking. I came into HOSA as an extremely shy and introverted person. HOSA made me step out of my comfort zone and the amount of personal growth it gave me was insurmountable. It was a slow process, but HOSA eased me out of my shell by providing opportunities to practice public speaking through competitive events, state conferences, and volunteer events. I was able to do things I didn't know I had the guts to do like perform newly acquired health skills in front of a panel of judges and speak in front of crowd of more than 800 people. HOSA is an amazing organization that has enabled me to build important lifelong skills."

- Joanne Chi, 2019-2020 Hawaii HOSA State President (Class of 2020)
