(7th & 8th Grades)
XWG0021 STEM: Flight and Space (Semester)
In this class, students will explore the fascinating world of flight and space exploration. They will learn about the science behind aircraft flight and delve into the principles of aerodynamics to understand how aircraft stay airborne. By studying the engineering design process, they will gain insight into the development of various aircraft and the importance of efficient design.
Through hands-on activities, students will investigate the impact of different airfoils on flight performance, allowing them to grasp the significance of shape and structure in aerodynamics. They will also use maps for navigation exercises, enhancing their understanding of how pilots navigate in the sky.
In addition to flight-related topics, students will delve into space exploration. They will investigate scientists and engineers' crucial roles in space travel, discovery, and living in space. Topics covered will include the launch process, orbital mechanics, the complexities of landing in space, and the measures taken to maintain the health and well-being of astronauts.
Furthermore, students will explore the technicalities of maintaining a stable living environment for astronauts during extended space missions. They will examine the various systems and technologies to ensure astronauts can thrive in a microgravity environment.
To reinforce their learning, students will have the opportunity to work in teams to plan and execute a simulated flight mission, designing their mission to establish a human presence on another celestial body.
Flight and Space class can ignite students' curiosity about flight and space exploration while fostering critical thinking skills and collaboration within a team setting.
