Assignment: Construct and fabricate a compound simple machine that effectively lifts 500 g mass, at least by 3 inches vertically. The simple machine must contain at least 4 simple machines.
What I Learned: First and foremost, this project really did enhance my ability to effectively collaborate with a team, in order to attain a certain objective, and taught me the importance of sociability. Additionally, this project definitely exposed us to the importance of improvisation, as we were always required to implement our problem-solving mindset during this activity, and were coerced to be flexible toward changes. For instance, when we integrated the regular mechanical nut that was meant to be used, the screws were repeatedly remaining loose, causing the entire compound machine to be unstable. To counter this predicament, we ended up using another type of mechanical nut which ended up fastening the entire system.
Improvements: The main mistake that we made during the project, was constructing our compound machine in a way where it produced a substantially high IMA. We could've solved this by reducing the number of pulleys that we integrated into our system, consequently causing the IMA to drop significantly. By doing this, our compound machine would've been much more efficient in terms of IMA, and we would've met one of the basic requirements of the project.
