Lesson Learned: Holistically, this was definitely one was the most fruitful projects I have completed in my years in taking engineering, as it was an effective teacher in helping me utilize deep engineering concepts to formulate a functional engineering design. For instance, I had to productively design and fully manifest an actual glider model, based on the research and the knowledge I had accumulated in regard to the topic. This helped me to get a better idea of the PLTW engineering design process to a greater extent, and apply technical knowledge in finer areas.
Most Challenging Aspect: The most challenging aspect throughout this project was essentially perfecting the design of the glider to produce the best results in regard to performance, as there were very small details my partner and I had to fix. For instance, we had to test the glider nearly 20 times before adding the right amount of clay on the wings for it to fly well and be balanced out correctly. In addition, we had to be very careful when launching the glider, as the chances of it breaking when coming in contact with the ground was very high. Overall, our technical knowledge had to be on-spot in order to produce a fully functional glider that met all the criteria.
What I could've done differently: Our design in general that we chose to go with wasn't very efficient, as it had mediocre results in the simulation software and was very simple in general. Based on this, we could've spent more time planning out the design on the AERY software in order to ensure the best results before building, rather than wasting extra time on correcting the design once it was built.
