In recent years, social isolation, media-driven division, and the rapid pace of social change have significantly impacted our ability to connect on a deep, human level. The Lakes Area Justice Table has prioritized mental and social well-being because it is foundational to fostering a cohesive and resilient community.
By focusing on human connection, mental health, and social well-being, we aim to address issues of loneliness, depression, polarization, and fragmentation that weaken the social fabric of our community.By promoting mental well-being and fostering dialogue, we are helping to create a more empathetic, supportive, and interconnected community.
The term moral injury originates from the experiences of Vietnam veterans. It refers not to a psychological problem, but one of a spiritual or moral nature based in witnessing or participating in an event which violates one’s deeply held moral beliefs. Moral injury may lead to alienation, shame, regret, or guilt. This participatory workshop will address both the theory behind moral injury and strategies for dealing with it.

The ConnectEffect event, held in January 2024, was a powerful example of this commitment. The event explored the impact of media and technology on human relationships, division, and identity. By bringing together a diverse group of participants, ConnectEffect fostered deep personal connections and encouraged dialogue across differences, helping to build empathy and understanding in a fragmented world.
