A just community ensures that no one is left without safe shelter. Neighbors for Shelter is a community initiative advocating for stable, year-round emergency shelter in Brainerd. We are working to secure long-term permitting, build public support, and foster partnerships that uphold the dignity and safety of every community member, especially those with no where to sleep.
The Shelter Action Team is working to support The Bridge on 7th, a low-barrier overnight shelter for adults experiencing homelessness in the Brainerd Lakes Area. We are committed to ensuring that this vital resource remains available year-round—not just during the coldest months—so that everyone in our community has a safe place to sleep.
The Bridge on 7th is operated by Bridges of Hope and has provided thousands of nights of shelter to hundreds of individuals since opening in 2021—offering warmth, safety, and dignity without requiring participation in programs or meeting restrictive conditions.
The Shelter Action Team is working to deepen community and Council support, secure long-term funding and permitting, and expand partnerships that uphold the safety, dignity, and well-being of every neighbor—especially those with nowhere else to go.
