Activity Overview
During the month of May, Zhongxiao Elementary School organized a special Mother’s Day English Activity to encourage students to express love and appreciation for their mothers and grandmothers while also practicing English in a meaningful and practical way. The activity challenged students to create a 30-second English video showing an act of kindness, love, or appreciation toward their mothers or grandmothers. Through this activity, students were encouraged to demonstrate care through actions while building confidence in using English in real-life situations.
Activity Requirements
Students were asked to record themselves performing one or more helpful or caring activities for their mothers or grandmothers. Some examples included:
Giving their mother or grandmother a relaxing massage
Helping to prepare dinner or meals
Assisting with laundry
Showing kind gestures and spending quality time together
While completing these activities, students were required to speak in English and describe what they were doing. For example, students could say for example:
“I help my mom prepare dinner.”
“I am helping my mom with the laundry.”
This requirement allowed students to practice speaking English naturally while connecting language learning with acts of kindness and family values.
Rewards and Recognition
To make the event even more meaningful, students who demonstrated clear English speaking skills and excellent effort were selected as winners. Students were chosen and rewarded for their participation and performance. Each winning student received a 600 NTD voucher, sponsored by the school, to take their mother or grandmother to a selected Italian restaurant. This reward was designed to encourage students to continue showing appreciation and love to the important women in their lives beyond the classroom.

The Mother’s Day English Activity successfully combined English language learning with character development and family appreciation. Students were able to practice practical English communication in an enjoyable and meaningful setting while learning the importance of gratitude, kindness, and caring for family members. The activity brought joy to many families and highlighted how English learning can extend beyond the classroom into everyday life experiences.
