Fun facts:
She LOVES the Smoky Mountains and visits that area at least once a year. She actually went twice in 2022.
She is a Level 1 and 2 Google Certified Educator and turns 50 this February!
Mrs. Foret has been teaching at Curtis for 8 years, and teaches 8th grade Literature and English I. In total she has been teaching 28 years! She began teaching in 1995, and prior to wanting to be a teacher, she was interested in marine biology and communications. Her hopes were to become a news anchor, but she eventually decided to teach because it was important to her to be in a stable place to raise her children. She has two daughters, one who graduated from JCCS in 2019 and one who is in 6th grade. Mrs. Foret loves to read interesting texts and hopes this will encourage her students to love reading as much as she does. Mrs. Foret says she chose education because she is a natural teacher. "As a child, I made my dad put a chalkboard on the fence and the neighborhood kids were my “students”, she said. She loves the ability to connect with students and share her love of reading with them. She says that the family environment at Curtis is something that you can feel the moment you enter the building. She also states that she knows that the people here care about her as much as she cares for them. She has worked in a few different schools and states that the work environment at Curtis is beyond comparison.
Mrs. Bonck has been teaching at Curtis for 6 years and teaches English III, English IV, English IV Honors, and LSU Dual Enrollment Composition courses. She began teaching in 1995, just after graduating from the University of New Orleans. Her original major was Business with Computer Science Option, but many things happened and majors changed. She would like to think God had a hand in guiding her to teaching, as it has become both a blessing and a vocation for her life. Her favorite aspect of teaching is the daily interaction with her students. She truly enjoys seeing their successes and the way each overcomes obstacles (or learns from let-downs). Throughout her 26 years of teaching, she has worked at a variety of schools. Mrs. Bonck said, "Curtis was started by a family and family permeates this school. I am not a worker here. I am a professional—and part of the family—just as the students are as well. I plan to remain here for the rest of my teaching years!" A funny story that Mrs. Bonck would like to share is that she has never been an athletic person, so it was funny to her that she was given an award senior year at the athletic banquet in high school, which she received for being a manager for her volleyball team. Mrs. Bonck had a lot of school spirit and in her senior year, was voted onto the Senior Prom Court as "most spirited"--besting the other candidate (who was the school mascot)!
Fun Facts:
While growing up, she was never allowed to have pets. Now it seems she has become a "cat lady." Since the outbreak of COVID, she and her family have rescued four cats (one was born without a tail and has the same spinal defect Mrs. Bonck has)!
Mrs Bonck said, "I have dealt with many health issues from the time I was young, including two birth defects (one of the heart and one of the spine). I would like to think these obstacles have made me stronger as a person and have pushed me to persevere."
Fun facts:
He is a huge fan of terrible low budget movies.
He has a cool facial scar.
Mr. Ducote has been teaching at Curtis for 3 years and teaches 10th grade World History and 11th grade U.S. History, which both have dual enrollment options. He went to high school at Dutchtown and college at LSU. He once saw a group of Dutchtown janitors desperately trying to catch an endangered bat with a dustpan. Also, at LSU a man accused him of mocking and laughing at him because he had recently been arrested for stalking another student. He says he spent the rest of the semester afraid the man would murder him. He started teaching in 2020 after taking a year off after college graduation. Working similar jobs during this period made him realize the passion he has for history and helping people understand it. He thought about going into a History PhD program after he graduated, but says it seemed too hard and kind of lame. He loves watching students fully understand complicated topics and ideas after struggling with them. "The look of comprehension and self-satisfaction on a student's face is quite a sight," he said. Mr. Ducote said that one thing he enjoys about teaching is when he gets the opportunity to go off on tangents and teach about things that are interesting and important, but might not appear in a textbook.
Mrs. Fabacher has been teaching at Curtis for 8 years and teaches 10th grade Biology and 11th grade Anatomy. She graduated from Curtis in 2002, and was very active during high school. She was on the cheer, softball, and volleyball teams, but stated that volleyball was her favorite. She originally wanted to be a veterinarian, but always loved playing teacher when she was younger. She g received her undergraduate degree from LSU and then went to veterinarian school for a year, but decided it wasn’t the route she wanted to go. Mrs. Fabacher got married to her high school sweetheart, started a family, and wanted to be a stay at home mom until her kids were ready to start school. Then, she began her teaching career. Her favorite thing about teaching is helping students succeed and gain confidence in themselves. She believes that many students don’t know how much they actually teach her. She said that she truly loves watching her students grow throughout their years at Curtis.
