The boys and girls basketball teams are back at it again with a goal of winning a state championship. Both teams have started the season hot, with the boys beating the International Panthers in a blowout 97-56 win. The girls matched the same intensity as the boys with a 65-18 demolition of the South Lafourche Tarpons. After a close state championship game that ended in a loss last year for the boys team, the Patriots are determined to leave with a trophy with this time. Seniors Mark Johnson, Sam Smith, Semajai Mcclendon, and Aaron Johnson are motivated to leave their mark on school history. The solo senior on the girls team, Jania Holmes, has already left her mark in Curtis history, but she still has the determination she needs to end the last game of her high school career with a win. The boys head coach, Bill Lewitt, is ready to do whatever it takes to get his boys a chance to compete for a ring. When asked about his aspirations to lead Curtis to a championship, senior Mark Johnson replied, "I think our team right now is really good. We have our football players back from their championship. Those guys did an amazing job, and they've done well in the basketball program. Now that we have our full team, we can do many things better since we have many of our guys back. We'll make it to the state championship this year.” The boys team is currently 19-6 and 5-2 in the district.  The girls team is currently 15-1 and undefeated in the district. With the season off to a successful start, the players and coaches are hopeful that the boys and girls teams will be able to earn a state championship this season. It won't be easy to get there, but the Patriots won't go down without a fight!
