Mrs. Guedry is the civics, history, and English teacher at John Curtis, and has been teaching here for 9 years now. She’s had two children graduate from Curtis, one of which is also a teacher here now too. Recently, Mrs. Guedry has also won the Daughters of American Revolution Teacher’s Statewide History award, representing Louisiana at a national level. She will receive this award on March 17 at a banquet. She became a teacher because she loves kids and helping them grow into competent adults. She loves going to all sporting games throughout the year and supporting her students.”
How was your high school experience? “I went to three different high schools, but I loved it and learned a lot about being well-rounded.”
Do you like teaching at a small school? “Yes, it has its benefits, and I like being able to know all the kids and have connections with them”
Do you teach your favorite subject or do you have a different favorite subject? “Yes, I love civics and history and that’s what I get to teach.”
Coach Lewit is boys basketball coach and psychology teacher at John Curtis. He’s been teaching here for 3 years now and has led the boys to multiple victories. He became a teacher here because of the family atmosphere and the value of Christian education, and also the athletics, clubs and spirit outside the classroom walls. He says he likes being at a small school and he loves wherever he is at the moment. He also likes that Curtis is more personalized, family driven, and an optimal opportunity for students to get a good experience.
How was your high school experience? “I was a student athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. Recently I was inducted into the Red Bank Regional High School Hall of Fame and the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.”
Do you teach your favorite subject or do you have a different favorite subject? “Whatever subject I’m currently teaching is my favorite. I’ve taught 11 different courses at the college level, and I loved each one.
What is your favorite school activity / event throughout the school year? “My favorite events are chapel services and supporting my students outside the classroom. I enjoy being able to embrace the message and use them as part of my daily life.”
Mrs. Guille teaches science, math, and English, and also sponsors Interact Club. She has been teaching at Curtis for 10 years now and has been very involved during her career. She loves teaching at a small school and loves the environment. Her favorite events of the year are the Sweetheart Court, Homecoming Court, and Senior dinners that take place at houses of Curtis family members, because they embody what this school stands for treating everyone as family. She said, "Football season is a very close second though."
Why did you become a teacher ? “ I’ve always played school, and I learned that I love to teach middle school and high school kids, and experience the journey of them figuring out who they are and keeping up with them after high school. I’ve learned that I will teach anything they need me to. I want kids to learn things that stay with them.”
How was your high school experience? “ I had a great experience, I am still very close friends with people I went to school with.”
Do you teach your favorite subject or do you have a different favorite subject? “Yes, math is my favorite subject, and I teach 2 geometry classes. I also enjoy science. I teach 3 earth science classes and an english grammar class.”
Coach Brandon is the economics and civics teacher, and he also coaches football. He is an alumni and has been teaching at Curtis for 5 years.He really likes teaching at a small school, especially because it’s the one that he went to, where he had a good and fun high school experience.
Do you teach your favorite subject or do you have a different favorite subject? “Yes, because I was a business major and economics is the closest thing to business.”
What is your favorite school activity / event throughout the school year? “I enjoy all sporting events throughout the year.”
Mrs. Bennett is the highest level math teacher here at Curtis, and she has been here for 30 years. She also is in charge of Spirit Club and Drama Club, and loves supporting the students throughout the year. She became a teacher because that’s what she wanted to do, and it also runs in her family. She does teach her favorite subject, which is math, and teaches multiple levels of high school math.
How was your high school experience? “I went to a huge high school and was kind of weird, but I competed in gymnastics.”
Do you like teaching at a small school? “Yes, I like it very much. I have also taught at New Orleans public schools, so that’s not really comparable, but I probably wouldn’t teach anywhere smaller.”
What is your favorite school activity / event throughout the school year? “I like homecoming week and the state football game the best.”
